The opening of the Constantia Emporium was a lifelong dream for the Solomon family, who worked with Checkers to win back their land after apartheid. This is one of the most successful land claim outcomes in South Africa’s history and what a privilege to be a small part of this story.
In November 2019 Checkers tasked me with the honour of planning the opening of their flagship store in the Constantia Emporium. I worked hard to give them the best event we could possibly arrange and the result was that of many happy tears. The family could not hold back the floodgates of tears as the realisation of years of hard work and perseverance had finally become a reality.
For this event we pulled out all the stops, celebrating the African success story with two of South Africa’s beloved flowers: the Protea Pin and the hydrangea. We rolled out the black carpet – lit by gold and black candles and had Renate Music welcoming guests with her electric violin
Everything was an expression of love from the furniture, brought in by amazing suppliers like Happinest Hire, Urban Tonic and Propstars to the food from Annalize Catering and creative salt block steak by the talented Chef Craig from Gooseroasters. No detail was overlooked and the celebration was more than anyone could have imaged.
We are so thankful to have been part of this memorable experience.
